We, the Indim Staff of the Prison Department, have the honour to lay the following request before Your Excellency for Your

Excellency's favourable consideration.

That we are native of India having been employed here as

Warders, Assistant Warders and Guards.

That our salary are less than any Indian in every other Government Departments, but the hours of duties we had to perform and the responsible we had to hold are much longer and important than any

of them.

That our salary is as follows:·

Warder

$30 to $35 per month.

1st Class Assistant Tarder

2nd Class

3rd Class

That the highest pay in the staff is that of Warder, the maximum pay is $35 per month and will receive no increment whatever long service we may serve .

That the salary we are at present drawing are not sufficient to meet the expenses on provisions, etc. and remit money home to sup- port our families at home and some of us had 4 or 5 children to be brought up and give them their necessary expenses.

Under these circumstances we most respectively beg to pray that Your Froellency will kindly grant us to have some increase of salary and that if this our humble request be granted we shall be

ever grateful.
